Glenn Clark (1882-1956), the founder of CFO, was a professor of English and a highly successful college athletic coach. While on the ‘Island Farthest Out’ in the Atlantic Ocean off the eastern coast of the United States, he dreamed of groups of people meeting together to experience the wholeness of spiritual life by practicing the presence of God in every area of their lives.  Glenn Clark was a man who knew the power of prayer through personal experience. He wanted to share his dynamic faith in God, and out of that dream Camps Farthest Out became a reality. In 1930, the first CFO camp was held at Lake Koronis, Minnesota. There are now well over a hundred camps in North America and around the world, meeting in almost every section of North American and every region around the world.

Dr. Glenn Clark – layman, eminent author (has authored over 50 books on the spiritual life), professor, philosopher, Christian man of prayer and faith – believed men and women could become Athletes of the Spirit. By that he meant that to live in the Kingdom of God, here and now, we must enter into training just like a physical athlete does. It seemed to him that “farthest out” was symbolic of going “all the way” in seeking God and the laws of His Kingdom. Thus our name: Camps Farthest Out.
